In-person interpretation
One speaker.
A language your audience follows.
Turn live microphone audio into translated voice on a speaker or headphones. Parley’s in-person mode gives presentations, small workshops and guided conversations a dedicated one-way translation flow.
A simple audio path
Physical microphone → selected cloud translation service → physical speaker or headphones.
Words you can revisit
Read original and translated captions as you listen. Review local history and export SRT subtitles after the session.
Use the equipment you already have
Bring your Windows or Mac computer, a microphone and an output device. You do not need to purchase dedicated translation earbuds for this flow. Unlike meeting mode, in-person mode does not need a meeting virtual audio device.
A headset can help one person listen privately. A speaker can play one translated output to a small group. This is a single translated audio output, not a multi-channel conference distribution system.
Set up a live interpretation session
- Open in-person mode. Confirm the desktop preview requirements and sign in.
- Select the microphone and physical output. Place the microphone away from the speaker so it does not capture the translated audio again.
- Choose the target language and service. Use managed translation without a personal API key, or your supported provider after buying the personal API licence. Start with an available built-in voice.
- Check the room before starting. Run a short session to check input levels, audibility and the selected language. Ask speakers to speak clearly and avoid talking over one another.
- Stop when the session ends. Review the original words and translations in History.
One stream, usage-based billing
Managed in-person interpretation uses one stream. A 30-minute active session is 30 stream-minutes. Billing includes silence while the service connection is ready, so stop the session during breaks. There is no recurring Parley subscription.
With a personal API licence, provider usage is billed to your own provider account. The licence does not include translation credits. Estimate a session before choosing.
When to choose a different workflow
For a call where both participants need to speak and hear translations, use two-way meeting translation. For hands-free travel without a computer, dedicated translation earbuds may be a better fit; see our comparison of hardware, subscriptions and Parley.
Translation requires internet access. Supported languages and voices vary by model and installed app. Get permission to process the audio; selected input is sent to the cloud service. See the data handling overview.
