Guides · First use
Your first Parley session.
From download to a short test.
Install Parley, sign in, set up your audio and run a short test before an important conversation. Every step below is also described on the pages it links to.
1. Download and install
Choose the installer for your computer on the download section: Windows x64 or ARM64, or Mac for Apple Silicon or Intel (macOS 14.5 or later). Parley is a desktop app, not a browser translator or mobile app.
Mac apps are signed with Developer ID and notarized by Apple. Windows installers are unsigned and may show an unknown publisher; the bundled VB-CABLE driver is signed.
2. Sign in and add credit
All modes require sign-in. Use the same account in the app and on the website. For the managed service, sign in, add wallet credit and choose Parley service with Qwen or Doubao; no personal API key is needed. A $1 first top-up is available for a short test.
Prefer your own provider account? Buy the one-time personal API licence and follow the personal API guide and the API key guide. Provider usage is billed separately.
3. Set up your audio
Windows 11
- Allow the bundled audio component to install; restart Windows if requested.
- Choose your meeting process as the listening source.
- In the meeting app, choose CABLE Output (VB-Audio Virtual Cable) as its microphone.
- Select physical headphones in Parley and check both directions.
macOS 14.5 or later
- Allow microphone access and complete the in-app audio driver setup.
- Set the meeting microphone to ParleyVirtualMic.
- Set the meeting speaker to ParleyMeetingBus.
- Select your physical microphone and headphones in Parley.
For in-person mode on either platform, select a physical microphone and speaker or headphones directly. No meeting virtual audio device is needed. In every case Parley works through your meeting app's microphone and speaker settings.
4. Choose a conversation, languages and voice
Select meeting mode for two-way speech, or in-person mode for one-way microphone interpretation. Each mode remembers its own device and voice preferences.
Choose a language pair available in your installed app, selected model and mode (see the supported languages). Start with a compatible built-in voice, or use live cloning when you want the translation in a voice like yours — see voice cloning explained.
5. Run a short test
- Check your input levels, the selected output and the permissions Parley asks for.
- Press Start or Ctrl / Cmd + Enter.
- Use a short session to confirm that translated playback works in your headphones. In meeting mode, check both directions.
- Test audio routing with the actual meeting app and devices you will use, and avoid sending translated output back into the capture microphone.
Service usage may incur charges. Verify important names and numbers with the other person, and obtain permission to process the conversation.
6. Understand billing, then stop the session
Billing counts connected time once the service connection is ready, silence included, and a session is one charge even with two directions or several outputs. Stop the session to stop billing. See the fixed-cost table for 30 and 60 minute examples and the pricing page for current rates.
After you stop, review the original and translated captions in History, or export SRT subtitles.
