Translation earbuds or software?
Choose for the conversations you have.

A dedicated device can make sense for travel. Desktop software can make sense for calls at your computer. Here is how the equipment, payment model and setup differ.

Do you need a dedicated pair of translation earbuds?

If portability and a wearable form factor matter most, look closely at hardware products. Parley is a Windows and macOS desktop app: it works with your selected microphone and headphones or speaker. That avoids a dedicated translation-hardware purchase when you already work at a computer, but does not replace a pocket-sized travel device.

Some earbuds include offline language packs. Parley uses cloud translation and requires an internet connection. We do not claim Parley matches a competitor’s accuracy, latency or offline features.

Compare the cost of your actual conversation

For Parley managed service, multiply active minutes by the number of active streams and the current stream-minute rate. A 30-minute two-way meeting uses 60 stream-minutes if both directions remain active throughout. A 30-minute in-person session uses 30.

For a subscription, check included translation minutes, whether voice consumes extra allowance, and what happens when you run out. JotMe’s official explanation distinguishes basic captions, premium captions and audio modes with different minute consumption. A nominal “minute” is not necessarily the same unit across products.

For a personal API, add the software licence and the provider’s usage charges. Whether any option costs less depends on your usage. Use Parley’s current-rate estimator rather than assuming one option is always cheaper.

Download and check your setup

Installers are available for Windows 11 and macOS 14.5 or later, including Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. Mac installers are Developer ID signed and notarized by Apple.
