Comparison
A KUDO or Interprefy alternative for small meetings.
Self-serve desktop translation, billed per minute.
KUDO and Interprefy serve organisers of multilingual meetings and events. Parley is a personal desktop app for people who join everyday online meetings in another language. Here is how buying, setup and fit differ.
In short: KUDO and Interprefy are event platforms: pricing is quoted by their sales teams and bought per event, per hour block or as an annual plan, with human interpreters available. Parley is a self-serve desktop app: download it, top up a prepaid wallet and pay per session-minute; the other people in the meeting install nothing. For one person or a small team in regular online calls, Parley can be the lighter fit. For large multilingual conferences or when you need professional human interpreters, KUDO or Interprefy is the better choice. (Disclosure: we make Parley.)

When KUDO or Interprefy is the better fit
- Large conferences and many languages at once. Both platforms are built for organisers who deliver several language channels to an audience, online, hybrid or on site.
- Professional human interpreters. KUDO lists 200 spoken and sign languages through its interpreter network; Interprefy sources vetted interpreters or lets you bring your own. For important decision-making, a professional interpreter is often the right call.
- Recurring events with a budget owner. Annual plans and hour blocks suit teams that run multilingual events throughout the year and want vendor support.
When a small-meeting tool like Parley fits
- You are the one who needs translation. Parley runs on your Windows or Mac computer and sits between you and your meeting app. The other participants keep using their meeting app and install nothing.
- Short, frequent calls. There is no sales call and no hour block to commit to. Top up the wallet and pay for the minutes you connect.
- Two-way conversation. You speak your language and the other side hears a translation; their replies are translated back to you, with bilingual captions on screen. Ear return is on by default so you can hear how your own words were translated.
How Parley billing works
Managed translation needs wallet credit and no licence. One connected session covers both directions — speaking and listening share a single charge — and billing includes silence while the session is connected, so stop the session when you are done. Qwen is $0.070/minute and Doubao is $0.148/minute; a $1 first top-up trial is available. Venue interpretation needs a separate venue licence, and a personal API licence is optional if you prefer your own provider account. Windows installers are currently unsigned, so Windows may warn about an unknown publisher. See pricing for the current details.
Setup
Parley appears as a microphone and speaker path for mainstream meeting software on Windows and Mac. Exact menus differ by operating system and client version, so follow the download and audio checklist and test both directions before a real call. More on the workflow: meeting translation.
Questions
Do I need to contact sales for a small meeting?
Not with Parley: you download the app, top up a prepaid wallet and pay per session-minute. KUDO and Interprefy do not publish prices on their pricing pages; you request a quote or plan from their teams.
Do the other participants need to install anything?
With Parley, no. You run the desktop app; the other people stay in their usual meeting app and hear your translated voice through the normal meeting audio.
Can Parley replace a human interpreter?
Not for every case. Parley is AI translation for everyday conversations. For high-stakes negotiations, large events or sign language, a professional interpreter service such as KUDO or Interprefy is a better fit.
