JotMe alternative: monthly captions vs per-minute desktop
Team meeting platform and personal interpreter — fair comparison.
JotMe serves multilingual teams and events with desktop, mobile and Chrome extension tools. Parley is a personal desktop app for bilingual online calls. Here is how buying and in-meeting delivery differ.
In short: JotMe is for multilingual teams and event ops: Mac/Windows desktop, mobile and Chrome extension; no bots join the call; per-user monthly packs with agentic live translation minutes (Free about 20 minutes/month; personal about $20/month for ~200 minutes or about $10/month billed annually at $120/year; higher about $30/month for ~500 minutes or about $15/month annually; Teams from about $60; Enterprise custom). In-meeting focus is live translated captions and sharing (link / QR / on-camera subtitles), plus transcript, Ask JotMe, AI notes and post-meeting alignment; mobile pages separately mention AI-generated translated speech. Parley is a personal desktop simultaneous interpreter: translated audio reaches others through meeting mic settings, and the other party need not install; prepaid wallet billing is Qwen $0.070/minute and Doubao $0.148/minute, with a $1 first top-up trial and an optional one-time personal API licence at $95. Team monthly subscription, caption sharing and notes/transcript → JotMe. Two-way spoken audio into the meeting, per-minute self-serve, zero install for the counterpart → Parley. (Disclosure: we make Parley.)

When JotMe is the better fit
- Your team wants a monthly live-translation allowance. Per-user packs (Free ~20 min; personal ~200 or ~500 min tiers; Teams from ~$60) fit recurring multilingual operations.
- You need shared live translated captions plus notes. Public materials emphasise share by link, QR or on-camera subtitles, with transcript, Ask JotMe and AI meeting notes for post-meeting alignment.
- You prefer desktop + mobile + Chrome extension, no bots. Official copy: install once, use across Zoom/Meet/Teams/Webex or in-person; participants need not install plugins.
- Language breadth and compliance messaging matter. 200+ targets (13 in fast mode); GDPR and SOC 2 Type II in progress on the public site.
When a personal desktop tool like Parley fits
- You are the person who needs bilingual Zoom or Meet calls. Install on Windows or Mac; the other people stay in their meeting app and install nothing.
- You want per-minute self-serve billing. No monthly minute pack: top up a prepaid wallet (from $1) and pay Qwen $0.070/minute or Doubao $0.148/minute. Silence while connected is billed, so stop the session when you are done.
- Translated speech should go through the meeting microphone path. Counterparts hear ordinary call audio; they do not need a separate caption-share session for that workflow.
- Optional bring-your-own keys. A one-time personal API licence ($95 list) unlocks your own provider keys; managed OpenAI and Gemini are Coming soon.

How Parley billing works
Managed translation needs wallet credit. One connected session covers both directions — speaking and listening share a single charge — and billing includes silence while the session is connected, so stop the session when you are done. Qwen is $0.070/minute and Doubao is $0.148/minute; a $1 first top-up trial is available. Only Qwen and Doubao are live today; OpenAI and Gemini are Coming soon. Ear return is on by default at about a 15% mix and can be turned down or off. Venue interpretation needs a separate venue licence. An optional personal API licence is $95 one-time if you prefer your own keys. Windows installers are currently unsigned, so Windows may warn about an unknown publisher. See pricing and FAQ.
Setup
This page does not include click-by-click setup for JotMe or Parley. For JotMe, follow jotme.io and their onboarding. For Parley, the app appears as a microphone and speaker path for mainstream meeting software on Windows and Mac — exact menus differ by OS and client version, so follow the download and audio checklist and test both directions before a real call. More on the workflow: meeting translation.
Questions
Is JotMe a good Parley alternative (and the other way around)?
They overlap on live AI help for multilingual meetings, but the product shape differs. JotMe is a desktop, mobile and Chrome-extension platform with monthly per-user packs of agentic live translation minutes, plus shared live translated captions, transcripts, Ask JotMe and AI notes. Parley is a personal desktop app with a prepaid per-minute wallet; translated speech reaches others through the meeting mic settings, and the other party need not install Parley. Team monthly subscription with caption sharing and notes → JotMe. Two-way spoken audio into the meeting, per-minute self-serve, zero install for the counterpart → Parley.
How do JotMe monthly minute packs compare with Parley per-minute billing?
JotMe’s public pricing (checked 2026-10-15) is per user per month: Free about 20 minutes of agentic live translation or real-time summary; a personal plan about $20/month for about 200 minutes (3h), or about $10/month when billed annually ($120/year); a higher personal plan about $30/month for about 500 minutes (8h), or about $15/month annually ($180/year); organization/group plans start about $60; Enterprise via sales. Parley has no monthly minute pack: Qwen is $0.070/minute and Doubao is $0.148/minute from a prepaid wallet, with a $1 first top-up trial and no subscription. Confirm JotMe on jotme.io/pricing before you buy.
How does in-meeting delivery differ: captions vs spoken audio?
JotMe’s public materials emphasise sharing live translation with teammates and audiences via link, QR code or on-camera subtitles, plus transcript, Ask JotMe, AI meeting notes and recording share. Mobile (iPhone/Android) pages separately mention AI-generated translated speech. This page does not claim that the desktop app sends translated speech through a mainstream meeting app’s main-mic path. With Parley, translated speech goes out through the meeting app’s microphone path so counterparts hear ordinary meeting audio and need not open a separate caption-share session or install Parley.
Do participants need to install anything?
JotMe states no bots join the call and participants need not install plugins; you run JotMe on desktop, mobile or Chrome extension alongside mainstream meeting apps or in person (per official pages). Counterparts receive shared live translation via the share paths above. With Parley, only you install the desktop app; the other party stays in the meeting app with zero Parley install.
When should I pick JotMe over Parley?
Pick JotMe when your team wants a monthly subscription with a live-translation minute allowance, shared live translated captions, speaker-labeled transcription, Ask JotMe, AI notes and post-meeting alignment across 200+ target languages (fast mode lists 13 targets). Pick Parley when you need two-way spoken translation into the meeting on a prepaid per-minute wallet, self-serve from $1, and zero install for the counterpart. Many teams evaluate both for different jobs.
